Chapter 17

“Wow!” Alec exclaimed as he spied Sabrina walking down the stairs towards him. He’d been on the receiving end of a lecture from Doug for the last ten minutes, the sixth or seventh since she’d spent the night at his place but the sight of her made it all worth it. “Sabs…you look…”

“Thanks.” She grinned, giving Doug a hug, and kissing his cheek. “I promise straight home after the dance.”

“Good, Alec, treat her right,” Doug warned as Marge gave Sabrina her own hug.

“Always Mr. Tyler,” he swore helping Sabrina with her heavy shall. It was still cool out and he didn’t want her to get cold.

“Ready?” Alec asked as Doug opened the front door for them.

“As I’ll ever be,” she stated, allowing him to usher her out to the car. When they were seated inside, Alec leaned over and kissed her making her nerves fly away and a smile linger on her lips.

“You look amazing Sabs,” he said taking her hand as they drove.

The dance had started by the time they got there, and she reluctantly took the crown out of her bag once they reached the table where Harper and Joel, Nora, and her date Michael, plus Josh, Taylor, Chris, and their dates sat.

“Let me help,” Harper said with a smile as she took it from her and settled it onto her hair. “You look unbelievable, doesn’t she Alec?”

“Always does,” Alec replied before lowering his head and whispering so only Sabrina could hear, “especially in my t-shirts.”

“Alec,” she said with a light warning, but she couldn’t hide the look in her eyes as her gaze met his.

“Okay there, if you two don’t stop it we’ll have to call the fire department in here,” Joel stated, as a slow song started up. “Feel like dancing with me gorgeous?” he asked Harper.

“Love to,” she replied getting up. “Is anyone else going to join us?”

“Only if I get to dance with the most beautiful girl in the room,” Alec answered holding out his hand for Sabrina. She nodded in reply to his silent inquiry and followed him out onto the floor. As his arms slid around her waist, she glanced around aware that everyone was watching them.

“Feel like you’re on display?” he asked, bending down slightly to talk to her.

“Yeah, it’s weird I guess,” she told him slipping her arms around his neck. “But I think I know what’ll make it better.”

“You do?” he said as a smile slid onto his face.

“Mhmm…this,” she stated, pulling his face down to hers and kissing him just enough to prove that they were together but not so much that they lost track of where they were. She took a step closer to him and rested her head against his chest as they swayed with the music.

The dance was great despite her reservations about being on display but when it was over, she didn’t want to go home. Joel suggested they go somewhere to eat, and she agreed overriding Alec’s protests that she’d promised to go straight home after the dance.
